If you live anywhere near Philly and love dining out, you’ve heard the name Stephen Starr. The iconic restaurateur reportedly searched high and low for the perfect pizza crust recipe while holing himself up in NYC and sampling different pies from the city’s best pizza joints.

Sadly, Stephen’s efforts don’t translate into anything spectacular. He may have found the Valhalla of pizza crust recipes but his giant custom-built brick oven almost always manages to char the pizza almost beyond the point of recognition. Honestly, I’ve had better pizza at hole-in-the-wall spots around the city. I’ve given this place plenty of chances to redeem itself and it always comes up short.

If you’re dying to eat at a Starr restaurant, you’d be better off going to The Continental.
