Where to Eat in New Orleans

1 min read

New Orleans, the beloved jewel of the Gulf Coast, is easily the most underrated culinary destination in the country.

New Orleans cuisine, commonly categorized as Cajun and Creole cooking, is a tapestry woven by the intertwining of Spanish, African, French, and Native American influences. The culture, cooking techniques and ingredients of these influencers show themselves in the slow, rich flavors for which the region is known.

Don’t forget the city is home to a number of powerhouse chefs like Lagasse, McPhail, Besh, Spicer and Prudhomme (the man credited with popularizing New Orleans cookery). These chefs and their colleagues were doing farm-to-table, or more appropriately, ‘gulf-to-table’ cooking long before it became trendy. From the deep backwaters of the bayou to raucous Bourbon Street, there are plenty of good eats in The Big Easy. Grab a fork and your best elastic waist pants and prepare to chow down.

Unusual Museums Around the World

I’ve always been drawn to obscure things; I’ve never been attracted to the normal or what the cool kids were doing. In particular, I enjoy the unusual and the macabre—blame it on an enduring love of the works of Edgar Allan Poe—and I always seem to seek out bizarre and…
