Luna Grill & Diner – DC

While staying at the Dupont Hotel, I was totally jonesing for an awesome breakfast.  I am not as familiar with Dupont Circle as I am other parts of the city so I whipped out my cell phone and searched for breakfast spots and this little gem was only a few paces from the hotel.

Upon arrival, the first thing I noticed was the crowd of people packed like sardines in the restaurant’s tiny waiting area–hip 30-somethings, yuppie parents with screaming tots in tow, and aging hippies alike were vying for a table. The chaos might have frightened a lesser person, but not me–I took it as a sign of an awesome meal to come.

I ordered the Eggs Neptune–a twist on traditional Eggs Benedict–which consisted of two toasted English muffins each topped with a perfectly seasoned crabcake (yummo!) and finished with a precariously perched poached egg and a thicker-than-usual, Old Bay-spiked Hollandaise.  As if that wasn’t enough, the meal comes with a slew of home fries. Counting carbs be damned!

Definitely worth an elbow or two to the ribs as you jockey for a table on a Saturday morning.
